Abstract

EN This study aims to determine the properties required for enhancing fire resistance of steel tubular columns filled with cementitious material. Instead of regular concrete, lightweight cementitious composites with cenospheres are proposed for improving the fire resistance of composite columns. First, a numerical model of a CFST column is presented to determine the required properties with respect to filling. Second, results of experiments on lightweight cementitious composites with cenospheres are presented and discussed. Lastly, the numerical model fed with experimental data allows to determine what properties should be further studied or achieved when designing a new generation of LCCC. In conclusion, two further directions of experimental research are identified as prerequisites for designing steel tubular columns filled with lightweight cementitious composites with cenospheres with enhanced fire resistance.
