Abstract

EN The document presents the results of experiments on improving video coding efficiency by picture-level mirroring and rotation. In order to evaluate the maximum possible gain from such transformations, all test sequences were encoded multiple times, for each possible mirroring, rotation, and their combinations. Then, the selection of the best scenario was done independently for each frame, leading to optimal mode selection and the best achievable BD-rate improvement from mirroring and rotation transformations. The results were obtained using ECM-15.0 software, and the maximum average BD-rate change was -0.46%, 0.49%, and 0.61% for Y, U, and V components in AI configuration.
