EN In practice, minimal repair can be unsuccessful due to various reasons such as replacing a faulty spare part or a human error and should be executed repeatedly. Inspired by the concept of multi-attempt minimal repair which is based on the Non-homogeneous Polya-Aeppli process (NHPAP) describing multiple occurrences of events, we investigate two advanced periodic replacement policies for systems with successful minimal repair and unsuccessful repair attempt. In the proposed periodic replacement models, the repairable system is replaced not only based on the planed period, but also based on the number of repairs, whether successful minimal repairs or unsuccessful repair attempts. Long-run expected cost rate in the above advanced periodic replacement policies, serving as the optimization objective, is respectively minimized to seek for the optimal replacement cycle and the number of minimal repair, successfully or unsuccessfully. Numerical results support the conclusion that the number of multi-attempt minimal repair, either successfully or unsuccessfully, is a significant factor in the periodic replacement model for systems with multi-attempt minimal repair.
