EN The paper deals with the comparative investigation of the tram vehicle running with the aim of achieving the electric energy use minimum. The trams with direct current series motors and three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors were compared. Both the tram running without traffic perturbations and the vehicle ride with different disturbances have been analyzed. Investigation has shown that the vectorially controlled three-phase induction motors made energy savings possible in the city traffic in comparison with the tram ride at application of direct current motors. For the traffic stage with the constant speed in the steady state, the best values of the supply voltage and the feeding frequency can ensure the system efficiency increase. Particularly, electric energy savings can be noticed at dynamical type of tram vehicle ride in the city. After ending traffic perturbations, the methods of subsequent tram rides with the aim of attaining the traffic-delay liquidation and according to the criterion of the electric energy consumption minimum were elaborated.
