Abstract

EN This paper deals with the experimental examination of surface roughness when machining cylindrical workpieces with low volume of coolants and lubricants. The volume of coolants and lubricants was reduced in order to decrease the environmental load caused by cutting fluid. Our aim was to obtain a function relation between cutting data (cutting speed, feed rate), parameters of applied coolants and lubricants (viscosity, applied flow rate), and 3D surface roughness parameters of machined cylindrical workpiece. The cylindrical surface is machined on a standing workpiece with a special fixture in which the single point cutting tool executes both the principal (rotating) and auxiliary (linear) motions as well. The material AISI 1045 steel and external boring was carried out with a tool having a carbide insert. The aim of the research is to determine empirical formulas between the technological parameters and the surface roughness parameters by full factorial experiment design. Based on examinations, the best parameter combination can be selected.
