PL Proces przemian społeczno-gospodarczych ostatnich dwudziestu lat w znacznym stopniu wpłynął na przekształcenia najmniejszych ośrodków miejskich Krakowskiego Obszaru Metropolitalnego - z jednej strony stwarzając zagrożenia, z drugiej natomiast dając nowe możliwości rozwoju. Istotna rola miasteczek i ich znaczenie w sieci osadniczej KOM zależną od wielu czynników. Jednym z nich jest zachowane dziedzictwo i tożsamość miasta. Charakter podkrakowskich miejskich ośrodków wyrażają zarówno cechy mierzalne (zachowanie historycznych układów urbanistycznych, zabytków i form architektonicznych typowych dla małego miasta, a także przyroda i krajobraz w otoczeniu miasteczek), jak i cechy niemierzalne (lokalne zwyczaje, tradycje rzemiosła, słowa lub obrzędów). Wzrost dostępności komunikacyjnej małych miast KOM może w znaczący sposób wpłynąć na krystalizację sieci osadniczej obszaru oddziaływania Krakowa. W obliczu współczesnych przemian szczególnie istotna staje się rola miast małych, a w tym także tych ośrodków, które pomimo braku statusu miasta mają miejską strukturę funkcjonalno-przestrzenną.
EN The process of social-economic changes of the last twenty years has had major impact on transformations of the urban areas in the Krakow Metropolitan Area - on the one hand creating hazards, and on the other - giving new possibilities of development. A significant role of small towns as elements which could crystallize the settlement network of the Krakow Metropolitan Area depends on numerous factors. One of them is the preserved heritage and identity of a town. The nature of the Krakow’s outlying urban centres is expressed by both measurable features (retained historical urban layout, monuments and architectural forms typical of a small town, as well as nature and landscape around the towns), and by non-measurable features (local customs, crafting, oral and ritual traditions). Increase in communications accessibility of the small towns in the Krakow Metropolitan Area can have significant influence on crystallization of the settlement network of Krakow’s effects. In the face of such transformations, the role of small towns becomes particularly important - also of those which despite lack of a town status, have urban functional-spatial structure.
