PL O tożsamości miasta świadczą ludzie - nie architektura. Ta ostatnia określa miejsce, zawiera widoczne znaki przyporządkowania kartograficznego, rozpoznawalne parametry i kształty. O esprit miejsca, więc o prawdziwym całokształcie lokalnych wartości, które budzą skojarzenia i poruszają, stanowią użytkownicy, adresaci, mieszkańcy. To oni tworzą klimat miejsca, które się lubi lub nie. Londyn, będąc jednym z trzech global cities obok Nowego Jorku i Tokio, tworzy specyficzną aurę przyciągającą twórców, artystów, naukowców, nie tylko turystów. I to nawet pomimo krytykowanego przez profesjonalistów bałaganu urbanistycznego i pozornej swobody budowlanej.
EN It is people, not architecture who determine the identity of the city. Architecture merely defines the place; it contains the visible signs of cartographic assignment, all the recognizable parameters and shapes. Whereas it is the users-addressees-inhabitants who decide about the esprit of the place, about the true shape of local values which arouse associations and make one respond emotionally. It is them who create the climate of the place that is either liked or not. Besides New York and Tokyo, London, being one of the global cities, creates a specific aura which attracts creators, artists and scientists, and not only tourists. It does so, even despite the often criticized urban chaos and the seemingly excessive architectural freedom.
