PL Architekturę brutalistyczną uznaje się za nurt, w którym nie przywiązywano wagi do kontekstu urbanistycznego i architektonicznego. Architektom brutalistycznym zarzuca się, że wznosili budynki nieprzystające do sąsiedztwa i dominujące nad nim. Celem badań przedstawionych w artykule jest zaprzeczenie tej tezie i wskazanie idei, postaw twórczych oraz realizacji, które świadczą o uwzględnianiu zastanej sytuacji i miejsca projektowego w brutalizmie. Aspekt ten jest widoczny zwłaszcza w przypadku budynków brutalistycznych usytuowanych w strukturze historycznych miast. Ich projektanci za swoje priorytetowe zadanie uważali osiągnięcie określonych relacji pomiędzy nowym budynkiem a jego otoczeniem, choć relacje te mogły mieć zróżnicowany charakter – od zgodności, poprzez pokrewieństwo, aż po kontrast i przeciwieństwo. W artykule przeanalizowano doktrynę nurtu brutalistycznego, a zwłaszcza ideę As Found i imperatyw obiektywnego postrzegania rzeczywistości. Zbada-no i porównano budynki zaprojektowane przez prekursorów brutalizmu, a także obiekty wzniesione w USA, Europie i Polsce. Jednym z rezultatów pracy jest wskazanie działań i rozwiązań projektowych, które służyły powiązaniu budynków brutalistycznych z historyczną tkanką miejską, takich jak: kontynuacja pierzejowej zabudowy, uzupełnianie historycznych zespołów zabudowy, zgodność wysokości budynków, harmonizowanie rytmów, zachowa-nie reliktów zabytkowej zabudowy, przetwarzanie historycznych detali.
EN Brutalist architecture is considered a trend in which the urban and architectural context was ignored. Brutalist architects are also accused of erecting buildings that do not fit the neighbourhood and dominate it. The aim of the research presented in the article is to refute this thesis and to indicate ideas, creative assumptions and buildings that prove a thorough consideration of the objective conditions and the site of the project in brutalism. This aspect is especially visible in the case of brutalist buildings located in the structure of historic cities. Architects considered their priority task to be achieving specific relationships be-tween the new building and its surroundings, although these relationships could be of a different nature – from compatibility, through relatedness, to contrast and opposition. The author of the article analyzed the doctrine of the brutalist trend, especially the idea of As Found and the imperative of objective perception of reality. He examined and compared buildings designed by the precursors of Brutalism, as well as buildings erected in the USA, Europe and Poland. One of the results of the work is the identification of design solutions that served to connect brutalist buildings with the historical urban fabric, such as continua-tion of street frontages, filling in historical building complexes, similar building heights, harmonized rhythms on facades, preserved relics of historic buildings, and transformation of historical details.
