EN The vast majority of passenger rail transport in Poland is carried out by vehicles powered by electric traction. In case when a train needs to pass through a non-electrified section of the line, it is necessary to use an electric traction-independent vehicle, which, translated into the current situation, means using a vehicle with an internal combustion engine. The authors propose using a dual-drive 111DE locomotive for passenger rail transport, which can move on electrified and non-electrified railway lines. The article also presents data on the railway infrastructure and statistics on passenger rail transport in Poland. Considerations and justification for the use of a dual-drive vehicle are presented.
