EN The search for new recreational spaces and the development of new forms of tourism is nothing new in the tourism industry. However, since the beginning of the 21st century, tourism associated with famous architects’ buildings and architectural events (biennials, design weeks, etc.) have become a popular motive for travelling. Especially with the completion of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the power of architecture to create waves in tourism, and in turn, accelerate the economic development of cities, has been recognized. This phenomenon is referred to as “architourism,” which increases both government and private investment. The aim of this study is thus to explore architourism by focusing on two countries: Poland and Turkey. The study concludes that, with or without an iconic building, architecture is itself a motive for tourism and will continue to provide opportunities to increase municipal revenues if it is enriched by cultural links and community connections.
