EN Ex-post cost analysis of reconstruction of provincial bridges

EN The project of bridge reconstruction should be considered not only from its technical aspects but also in terms of economic analysis. The decision-making process often doesn’t take into account the social costs such as vehicle operating costs, value of users’ lost time or environmental costs. The paper presents an ex-post cost analysis of reconstruction of four bridges located along a regional road. The construction works were conducted at the same time and the bridges were open to traffic (except heavy vehicles) with the reduction of line in one direction on each bridge - this analysis therefore relates to real situation. The analysis was extended to the estimation of life-cycle costs of reconstructed bridges within predicted service life. Life-cycle costing methology is used allover the world to support decision-making process in bridges maintenance but still not in common use in Poland.
