EN The fierce battles for Kolobrzeg at the end of World War II ended with the capture of the fortress and the ceremony of its marriage with the sea on March 18, 1945. The symbolic significance of this event was the basis for the resurrection of the almost 90% destroyed city and its adaptation to completely new needs resulting from the exchange of population and the necessity of creating living conditions for newly arrived inhabitants. Engagement in a new, multicultural community led to a spontaneous construction campaign and created a basis for identification with the new place. The initiatives undertaken by inhabitants in the first years after the war to clean up the area of rubble, as well as to organize the foundations of daily life and revive the economy increased the feeling of being part of the new place and consequently impacted later planning decisions related to the creation of a new urban space in Kolobrzeg.
