EN The implementation of the Water Framework Directive and Poland's accession to the European Union has resulted in intensive changes in water management in Poland over the last 20 years. Recently, due to the dynamic political situation and the introduction of a central regulatory authority, water utilities are facing many new challenges. In recent years, one of the biggest challenges has been discussions with the regulator about setting water and wastewater tariffs. Due to the energy crisis and high level of inflation, this discussion is now one of the most important topics related to water management in Poland. Economic matters are mixed with politics. Implementation of a rational costrecovery principle for water services is hampered by affordability and accessibility issues.
