EN Effective supply chain management is challenging regardless of the sector, commodity, chain design and stakeholders involved. For wood biomass supply chains, the high degree of diversity of the types of biomass handled and the sources of harvesting can be an even more significant issue. It is therefore important to understand what mechanisms influence the efficiency of supply chain management and design. The aim of the research presented is to verify the relevance of performance evaluation parameters from an environmental perspective. Using a Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) research method, it was possible to verify the potential development directions of reverse supply chains of wood biomass, depending on the most critical process parameters identified within the wood biomass processing centres located in Poland. It was concluded that the emissivity of transport processes for handling wood biomass can be one of the elements for assessing their efficiency, in combination with the type of loading units and means of transport chosen to handle the flows. The research carried out was limited to the specifics of Polish processing companies, further research could be carried out on a wider economic area. Conclusions indicating the relationship between specific risks related to both wood biomass material handling and certain stages of logistics might be efficiency beneficial while implemented in real business environment of reversed transportation supply chains of wood biomass.
