Abstract

EN The mastic asphalt (MA) layers are recently used in Polish bridge construction as a binder course in typical bridge deck pavements. The paper presents an initial research on durability of three different mastic asphalt mixes used on bridge decks. At first a stiffness modulus was determined using laboratory test IT-CY for each mix on three temperature levels: 5, 10 and 20 degrees centigrades. The research revealed, that the stiffness modulus value for mastic asphalt is much smaller then for stone-mastic asphalt (SMA) in the temperature of 5 and 10 degrees. The changes of modulus value due to temperature were less significant for MA than for SMA. The fatigue durability for each mix in three temperature levels has been also calculated using mix data and Asphalt Institute criterion. The calculated fatigue durability slightly increeses with the temperature growth. The optimal parameters of MA course for bridge deck pavements are still under research in Poland.
