EN In-use performance of five low-energy owner-occupied homes built to the same design specifications by a single contractor in Wrocław, Poland is presented. All the houses are equipped with MVHR and air-to-water heat pumps, however, two households also rely on wood burners for heating. Control systems for the space heating are varied reflecting owners’ preferences. The adaptive thermal comfort model is applied to thermal profiles of double-height living rooms with over 20m2 south-facing windows. The analysis covers seven months when space heating is used. The time when adaptive thermal comfort is within the class B threshold expected of newly built houses varies significantly between neighbouring homes, ranging from almost 95% to 50% of the analyzed period. Also monthly mean daily electricity consumption varies significantly between households within the range of 13–44 kWh/day for December, reflecting varied heat source and household characteristics. Links are explored between space heating control mode, solar irradiance, energy consumption, and the observed thermal profiles.
