EN Design and problems of erection of bridge founded on weak deformable soil are presented. Foundation on piles was impossible due to to large thickness of weak soil layer. That is why the bridge supports were placed on continuous footings. The soil layer of significant thickness, located the footings, was replaced. Since design computations proved that non-uniform settlements may occur, statically determinate structure was chosen (beam with hinges). It eliminated negative influence of non-uniform support settlements on structural behavior. Non-typical hinge solutions was applied - without expansion joints. Effectiveness of applied solutions was proved during bridge exploitation.
