Abstract

EN In order to feed the growing population in the big cities, there is an increasing demand for sustainable food supply. Vertical farming as the effective way for growing in the city and it is supposed to provide a physical base to conduct research into sustainable urban food production. Nowadays vertical farming has been working as the skyscraper gardens or skyline farms in many cities. Acting as the community garden hub the urban vertical farming is providing the place where residence around can easily go to see, plant their lovely vegetables, take care of the gardens, working in the harvesting process of the vegetables and fruits. The vertical farms are usually located in the city and around the community, residents around have opportunities to access to the plants easily. With good design of the vertical farming as well as the proper management, vertical farming is playing an important role in the urban landscape architecture. In many cases, vertical farming can shape the urban landscape. Meanwhile, vertical farming is also considerated as the symbol of wellbeing of the society and urban sustainable development by many people.
