Abstract

EN The appropriate concentration of chlorine in water distribution systems is one of the most important parameters affecting the standard of drinking water supply Maintaining an even chlorine concentration in the whole water supply network is hindered by its physicochemical properties of this process. Parallel reactions related to chlorine decomposition in the water supply network (bulk reactions and reactions on the walls) cause a significant decrease in chlorine content in water with time (with growing water age) which makes it difficult to maintain optimal chlorine concentration at network points far from the source. For this, various solutions to improve the situation are implemented: for example, additional chlorination points for water, located at a certain distance from the place where the network is supplied with water. In order to introduce improved chlorination of water in its own business, the Water Supply and Sewage Plant in Śmigiel is considering introducing new chlorine dosing systems that allow automatic control of the chlorine dose over time. However, before the investment begins, its technical effectiveness is analyzed. This paper presents the first phase of simulation works in order to show whether the implementation of the new investment could be economically efficient.
