Abstract

EN The concept of TQM is a vision of an organization seeking to adapt to new environments by extending the scope of its management to new areas. One such area is occupational health and safety and, in particular, working environment. Such an environment is viewed as one of the factors that impact the performance of tasks in business organizations. The paper addresses the potential of incorporating the guidelines prescribed in the ISO 45001 standard into the TQM philosophy. It points to the option of expanding the scope of the traditional TQM model, as developed by Oakland, by adding new issues, particularly those relating to the working environment. Compliance with the ISO 45001 standard allows organizations to align their measures with other fields of management. Such conformity can also be seen as a universal approach practicable regardless of the industry in which an organization operates or its size, ownership structure and business purpose. Although the following is by no means an exhaustive discussion of the issue, the author have highlighted a vital aspect of efforts taken to enable persons responsible for specific actions to better complete their jobs. To achieve that, organizations need to scrutinize their internal processes. By examining the issues in question against the backdrop of internal processes and the labour force, organizations end up viewing their workers as internal target groups. By providing the workers with an environment that is free of negative strains and that reduces the adverse biological impacts of work, lowering the incidence of adverse events and sick leave rates, organizations can significantly increase job satisfaction. Meanwhile, with improved work quality and efficiency, businesses also reduce their operating expenses.
