Abstract

EN Thin-walled cold-formed columns are particularly vulnerable to loss of stability. The aim of this study is to determine the critical forces and buckling forms of short, thin-walled columns with a modified cross-sectional shape. Experimental investigations and numerical analyses using the Constrained and Unconstrained Finite Strip Method (CuFSM) were performed. It was found from the tests that modifying the cross-section shape significantly affects the form of the loss of stability, but also increases the value of the critical force.
