Abstract

EN This paper presents analysis and optimal design of the switched reluctance motor (SRM). SRM motor have been considered for analysis because now a days due to growth in demand in use of electric and hybrid electric vehicles, aerospace applications, SRM usage has been increased due to its simple structure, smaller size, low manufacturing cost, fault tolerance and it is also used at extremely high speed operations. In this paper, the most efficient static characteristics of a switched reluctance motor are being determined. The calculations were analyzed for 8/6 switched reluctance motor configuration. The optimal rate of external periphery of rotor to the axial length (D/L) gives better performance. As pole count the optimal ratio also increases. So, it can be obtain the optimal efficiency by selecting different values of D/L ratios. In general, these type of vehicles are often seen in the market but our main aim of selection of parameters is to increase the efficiency and the performance of electric vehicles and to make it more optimizing for low cost by using suitable dimensions of motor and different kind’s of design materials. This can be achieved by 2D finite element analysis (FEA).
