Abstract

EN Fluorescent molecular probes represent a class of tracer compounds which due to their optical properties, can be employed as identifiers of variables in a reaction and/or biological environment. The fundamental concept underlying these probes is based on an activatable reaction through covalent or non-covalent interaction with a selected analyte or set of analytes, where the excitation and/or emission maxima are altered in terms of wavelength and/or signal intensity. In contrast, tracers for other agents exhibit inertness, which accounts for their selectivity.
