Abstract

EN One of the important aspects of the Controlled Atmosphere Brazing process is the brazeability of the heat exchanger. It results in not only an easy-to-control tightness but also internal joining of the heat exchange package that affects the performance and mechanical properties of the heat exchanger. The thermal matching of the aluminum alloy, filler metal, and flux plays a significant role in meeting brazeability criteria. It is also necessary to maintain the required brazing parameters in the tunnel furnace, including primarily the process time and maximum temperature that the heat exchanger will reach. Providing fixturing in the form of a brazing jig is also important. Its role is to maintain components in the required alignment and ensure contact between materials even after melting the cladded filler metal. Currently, the direction of development of brazing jigs is towards fixed-dimension, which must be considered even at the design stage of the heat exchanger itself. However, spring-loaded brazing jigs are still available on the market, which are more expensive to operate due to the need to control spring wear and consequently their cyclic replacement. The article below presents research on the possibility of modifying an existing spring-loaded jig into a fixed-dimension one for heat exchangers that were not designed with this in mind.
