EN The neutron irradiation of the TRIstructural ISOtropic (TRISO) samples in the reactor core is a long-term process, during which partial damage to the TRISO coating layers may occur. The ion implantation method can be an effective tool to reflect the neutron irradiation in the reactor core, and an efficient way to radically shorten the time for inducing damages. This publication focuses on the results obtained from the measurement of so-called p-TRISO samples, implanted with neon ions of specific fluences and energy. The purpose of this publication was to capture the point at which damage starts to occur to the individual layers of TRISO-particle fuel. For this reason, three different samples with different compositions of covering layers were analyzed. Investigating each layer separately will allow an understanding of the appearance of damage at the interface of the Buffer-IPyC layers. To characterize the effects of implantation, which reflect the irradiation process, Raman spectroscopy, and Scanning Electron Microscopy was used. The results show that initial layer damage occurs at a fluence of 1014 ions/cm2.
