EN Research was carried out a pilot scale on a physical model consisting of two columns filled with activated carbon WG-12. The height of the filter bed in both filters was 2,10 m and placed in water jackets. The water jacket was made with a pipe with the diameter of 140 mm, wherein water with the same temperature as filtered water, flows from top to bottom of jacket at all times. In the filter 1 biological activation of filter bed was carried out colonization of the filter bed by microorganisms contained in the water flowing to the filter. In the filter 2 activated carbon was biologically tnoculated"with backwash water taken from the carbon filters from existing Water Treatment Plant. To backwash added nutrients, aimed at ensuring appropriate concentration of biogenic compounds. Both filters operated under the same hydraulic conditions. Water samples were collected at the inlet and in the vertical profile of filter column. Following factors were analyzed in all samples: temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, alkalinity, COD (KMnO4), UV absorbance, TOC, total number of mesaphilic and psychrophilic bacteria. In some water samples, bio-chemical diagnostics were performed using an automated system Vitek 2 Compact (bioMerieux), in order to identify microorganisms. The results showed differences in the achievement of microbial activity in the analyzed filters. There were identified in a vertical cross section of the filter 1 Pseudomonas fluorescents, Pseudomonas stutzeri oraz Myroides sp. and in a vertical cross section of the filter 2 Pseudomonas putida, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter nosocomialis, Acinetobacter pittii, Acinetobacter baumannii, Acinetobacter caleoaceticus.
