Abstract

EN This paper proposes a framework that provides the basis for simulating in-plant logistics systems that use the milk-run concept. Simulation is a major tool used to design and improve system operations and performance. The multi-level framework defines the major components that are needed to represent the operation of such systems, including the physical actions of vehicles and operators, logistics activities, and strategic-level planning and decision variables. Based on the framework, a hybrid modeling approach that includes both discrete-event and agent-based simulation modeling is recommended.
