EN Bimodal silica-templated carbons with micropores and mesopores were designed to provide a high mobility of IL ions at low temperature, while keeping high values of volumetric capacitance. The micropores were created in the pore walls by adding ZnCl2 during the silica templating carbonization of a glucose precursor. Alternatively, the bimodal carbons were also produced by one-step carbonization of organic salts (such as magnesium/potassium citrate or gluconate) together with a carbon precursor (e.g., glucose). The presentation will disclose the low temperature properties of EDLCs based on these carbons in presence of an IL-based electrolyte. The systems will be optimized to obtain a high-power output energy.
