Abstract

EN One of the main difficulties for wheelchair users includes changing the mode of transportation, for example, from a wheelchair to a car. The rapid development of mechanics and mechatronics in numerous industries is also being recognised in the transportation industry dedicated for people with physical disabilities. The article presents an overview of solutions to assist the transfer from a wheelchair to the driver's seat of a car. The latest solutions available on the market and among those under patent protection were demonstrated. Distinctive designs include transfer plates, movable seats and lifts. Available solutions may differ in terms of: space occupied, weight, level of interference with the car's structure, transfer safety, complexity of operating the device, etc. The aim of the review presented here is to raise awareness of the choice of an assistive device for transferring from a wheelchair to a car.
