EN The topic of the future and development of human capital in the context of issues related to the digitization of the economy, including Industry 4.0, matching IT competencies to the needs of enterprises and the labor market is a growing challenge for public and training institutions in making decisions as to its development in the region. The availability of competency resources of future employees depends on many factors, including the region, matching the candidate to the job profile, date of publication of the offer or completion of the candidate’s education. The literature review was done in this paper in the context of the issue of professional competencies of potential candidates in the IT profession in the era of automation and digitization of enterprises. The authors focus in particular on emphasizing the matching of professional competencies to the needs of enterprises in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. An important and innovative element of the study is the mathematical model which describes the impact of significant independent variables on the examined dependent variable which is the group of professional competencies of the IT technician. The research sample is based on 2,173 competency profiles of students studying in the profession of an IT technician, described in total by 3,874 skills and 619 job offers describing over 3,133 skills. The aim of the article is to create a mathematical model supporting decisions, taking into account significant dependent variables for matching professional competencies in the IT area to the needs of the labor market.
