EN Voltage distortion was a common condition in LV power grids. The “clipped cosine” was selected to investigate the influence of the distortion on the Pst measurement result. Such distortion occurs as a result of the influence of power-electronic devices (particularly the switching power supplies). The “clipped cosine” signal is composed of fundamental and higher harmonics and does not cause flicker. However, some AMI meters with a built-in flickermeter fail to determine the correct value of the indicator Pst for such distorted voltage. The study investigated the relationship between the indicator Pst and the distortion level mc of the “clipped cosine.” The results of analytical and experimental tests confirmed that in a properly implemented flickermeter, the Pst value is small and marginally depends on the value mc. But the “clipped cosine” distortion can influence the Pst measurement result in conditions, where the bandwidth and sampling rate for voltage measurement are not sufficient. Such a state has been detected in the tested AMI meters. This article formulates the dependence that allows for an analytical determination of a simplified relationship Pst=f(mc). The research results of modeled two energy meters have been compared with the results of laboratory measurements.
