Abstract

EN The paper discusses power quality (PQ) issues related to the charging process (CP) of an electric vehicle (EV) traction battery by the single-phase on–board low–voltage charger. The monitored on-board charger is configured to provide a constant current value. During monitoring, the focus has been paid on identification of the CP impact on PQ. The results of the research carried out show that the monitored EV CP is multistage. Variations in current, power, and content of higher harmonics and supraharmonics are observed. From a PQ point of view, the parameters of the power network at the point of connection of an on–board EV charger have a direct impact on the effects of such changes. Knowledge of the nature of changes at various stages of the CP makes it possible to identify such sources of disturbance in power networks. The results of the experiments show the need for uninterruptible monitoring of PQ in the supply circuit of electrical devices that are sensitive to poor PQ.
